Surface Finishing for FDM Parts

Choose finishing based on appearance, sealing, wear, and assembly requirements.

fdm bead blasting before after

Standard Bead Blasting

We provide controlled bead blasting to deliver a uniform matte surface and reduce visible layer contrast. Process is tightly controlled and does not significantly affect nominal dimensions for most features.

fdm vapor smoothing before after

Vapor Smoothing

We offer vapor smoothing to seal the surface and significantly reduce layer-line appearance. Process is material-dependent and may slightly soften sharp edges or fine details.

fdm tumbling polishing before after

Tumbling / Polishing

We support tumbling and polishing to smooth exposed surfaces and improve tactile feel. Results are geometry-dependent; sharp edges and deep cavities are reviewed prior to processing.

fdm painting dyeing finish

Painting & Dyeing

We provide painting and dyeing with optional priming to achieve consistent color and surface coverage. Coating thickness is considered for tight fits and mating features during finishing.

fdm threaded inserts before after

Threaded Inserts

We install threaded inserts to deliver assembly-ready metal threads with repeatable torque performance. Insert type, location, and hole specifications are confirmed from your model or drawing.

fdm custom finishes process

Custom finishes

Additional surface treatments are available on request, including sealing and secondary machining. Final process selection is confirmed during quoting based on material, geometry, and CTQ requirements.

Why Choose Kemal for FDM 3D Printing

dfm support

Design & DFM Support

We review wall thickness, overhangs, orientation, and CTQ features before printing to reduce warpage, fit issues, and rework.

quality control

Dimensional Control

Tolerances are managed through build orientation, support strategy, and post-processing planning, with CTQ surfaces confirmed during quoting.

FDM

Large-Part Experience

We regularly produce large parts in a single build and apply geometry-specific wall thickness and orientation guidelines to maintain flatness and stability.

Applications of FDM

Material Selection with Clear Trade-Offs

We recommend materials based on strength, temperature, and chemical exposure requirements, and clearly communicate trade-offs in cost, finish, and dimensional stability.

quality control

Post-Processing Control

Post-processing steps are selected and sequenced to meet cosmetic or assembly requirements, with dimensional impact reviewed for mating features and tight fits.

Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM)

Our FDM 3D Printing Equipment

We use industrial-grade FDM 3D printers designed for consistent quality, large build sizes, and high repeatability. With multiple production units in-house, we can handle prototypes, tooling, and low-volume production without delays.

  • Large Build Volumes: Equipment capable of producing parts up to 24″ × 36″ × 36″ in a single run — perfect for large prototypes or batch printing.
  • Tight Process Control: Advanced thermal management and closed-loop calibration deliver dimensional accuracy up to ±0.005″ (±0.1 mm) even on large components.
  • Material Compatibility: Our printers support standard, engineering-grade, and high-performance thermoplastics, including ABS, ASA, Nylon, PC, ULTEM, and carbon-fiber composites.
  • Production Efficiency: Multiple machines run in parallel, allowing 1–3 day turnaround for prototypes and 3–7 days for production orders, depending on part complexity.
